Way back around 2009 I was first introduced to Cold War Kids. I am definitely not one to write music reviews or get tangled into the world of music critique, but I do have a knack for discovering bands before they become super popular. So, of course it was a complete eargasm when a friend opened my world to this amazing band. Songs like Hang Me Out To Dry, Saint John, We Used To Vacation, Welcome To The Occupation, Audience were a few among my favorites at the time (and still are). They helped me through one of the toughest times of losing a dear high school friend to a sudden Brain Aneurism. Ahh the healing of music. Those favorites have remained on my playlist as serious staple songs that I could never give up loving. With the release of “Hold My Home” and their EP “Five Quick Cuts“, I cant pick which song I love most and I can honestly say that I’ve fallen in love with their music more than ever. Majority of the tracks have a slightly more mainstream sound with that indie twist I favor most about them. Im so excited to see such a rad band growing in popularity and success.
Now that you know my passion for this incredible group, you’d imagine when the bassist Matt Maust sends you a £UV tee, you cut it up, style it, and photograph the shit out of it! And thats exactly what happened after I received his package in the mail, which also contained some awesome postcards with Matt’s artwork on them (he’s f*&^in rad, unique & talented artist-check out his instagram @mistermauster)
For this outfit of the day I most definitely wanted to celebrate my love for this group by keeping ‘band chic’ as the forefront, because after all, it is band tee, duh. I grew up in the 90s grunge era (enter Marc Jacobs iconic runway looks of that time) and LOVED every second of it, so naturally I’m always drawn to plaid, leather and worn denim. I styled this modern day grunge look by balancing ‘old school’ with the addition of a straw fedora, and a luxe (and did I mention gorgeous) pony hair leopard & leather bag, added my most beloved black booties which resulted in the ultimate band chic outfit.
